Liberties recycling - project

About Us »    People »

LRTD is a FAS funded Community Employment training project for people affected by drug use that recycles used textiles. As a drug rehabilitation initiative the project has adopted an innovative approach. We offer people affected by drug and alcohol use a combination of practical work experience and training with on-going support in areas such as relapse prevention, counselling and peer groups. LRTD is also a FETAC accredited training centre.

Unwanted textiles are sourced from charity shops, door-to-door collections and from textile banks. The textiles are sorted, graded and baled. They are then exported to Africa and other developing countries where people benefit from them being sold at affordable prices. Residual textiles are sent to Europe for further processing and re-export. Surplus fabrics are cut up for supply as cleaning wipes to printers, cleaners, garages, etc.
